INTRODUCTION
The Trade, Commerce and Tourism Department of Central ProvincePara and Adventure (Pvt)
Ltd welcomes all international paragliding pilots to the Paragliding Promotion Event scheduled to be
held at two key locations in Sri Lanka’s Central Province, James Taylor’s Seat (Loolkandura – Deltota)
and Hunnasgiriya (Eighteen Bends). This document contains essential information regarding travel,
registration, equipment, accommodation, safety norms, and flight procedures.
Pilots are requested to read these instructions carefully and comply with all guidelines for a
smooth and successful event.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
All foreign pilots must meet the following minimum criteria:
1. Pilot License / Certification
a. Valid international paragliding license or equivalent national-level certification.
b. Tandem pilots must hold a valid tandem endorsement.
3. Health & Fitness

1. Day 1 – Arrival & Registration (24 December 2025)
a. Airport pickup
b. Check in at the accommodation
c. Document verification
d. Rest and acclimatization

2. Day 2 – Pilot Briefing & Site Familiarization (25 December 2025)
a. Safety briefing
b. Weather update
c. Launch/landing site orientation
d. Equipment check
e. Free Flight if required

3. Day 3 – Paragliding Event Days at James Taylor’s Seat (Loolkandura – Deltota) (26 December
2025)
a. Demonstration flights by professional local and international pilots
b. Tandem flights for invitees, media, and special guests
c. Filming and promotional footage capture
d. Equipment display
e. Debriefing
e. Move to the Hunnasgiriya area and check in at the accommodation.

4. Day 4 – Paragliding Event Days at Hunnasgiriya (Eighteen Bends (27 December 2025)
a. Safety briefing
b. Demonstration flights showcasing long-range glide potential
c. Cross-country paragliding demonstrations (weather permitting)
d. Tandem experience sessions
e. Filming and promotional footage capture
f. Debriefing with tourism officials and stakeholders

5. Day 5 – Reserve Day / Departure
Pilots who wish to extend their stay in Sri Lanka for sightseeing or travel may make their own
accommodation and travel arrangements. A free airport drop-off will be provided upon request.
FLYING SITES INFORMATION
1. James Taylor’s Seat – Loolkandura (Deltota)

a. Launch altitude: Approx. 1,368m AMSL
b. Conditions: Smooth morning thermals, ridge lift, cross-country flying.
c. Landing zones: Marked open fields (briefed on arrival)

2. Hunnasgiriya – Eighteen Bends

b. Launch altitude: Approx. 637m AMSL
c. Known for dynamic lift and scenic valley flights
d. Conditions: Smooth thermals, ridge lift, cross-country flying.
e. Landing zones: Marked open fields (briefed on arrival)

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
1. Mandatory Gear
a. Certified paraglider wing
b. Harness with back protection
c. Reserve parachute
d. Approved helmet
e. GPS / variometer (if available)
f. Radios (VHF/dual-band) (if available)
g. Helmet and other safety equipment as required

2. Equipment Inspection
All equipment will be checked by Para Adventure instructors prior to flights.
Unsafe gear will not be permitted.

3. Equipment Rental
Para Adventure team could provide, free of charge, a Tandem Wing and Harness upon request by a
Certified Tandem Pilot. Need to pre-reserve.
SAFETY & FLIGHT RULES

1. Mandatory Pilot Briefing
All pilots must attend the daily safety briefing covering:
a. Weather and wind patterns
b. Airspace restrictions
c. Emergency procedures
d. Communications protocol

2. Airspace & Flying Restrictions
a. No flying without authorized clearance by organizing Committee
b. Strictly avoid restricted military or protected areas
c. Maintain minimum safe altitude over populated zones

3. Communication
a. Radio frequency details provided at briefing
b. Pilots must maintain communication with event control at all times

4. Emergency Protocol
In case of an incident:
a. Alert via radio
b. Provide location and status
c. The rescue team will be immediately deployed

All participants are to confirm their Accommodation requirements on or before 10 December 2025
